SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN: GREEK GODS

When I was a little girl, I loved to read. My most worn out book by far was “Favorite Greek Myths” by Mary Pope Osborne. I loved the stories of the Gods, The magic, the conflict and the idea of Olympus. All of that being said, I thought it would be a perfect idea to base my senior capstone project around. I made 3 different social campaigns for greek gods: An instagram for Athena, a TikTok for Apollo and an Instagram for Hades.

I began by sketching what I wanted the three gods to look like. I knew that before I began designing the content, I needed to define their personalities so I could decide how each would theoretically express themselves on social media.

That lead me to potential logo designs and also color palettes. As you can see, each god has a very different aesthetic and identity.

The first god or rather goddess, is Athena: the goddess of wisdom, strategy and the city protectress her namesake being Athens. I did 9 posts for Athena including a logo design, profile picture illustration, moodboard (that I photographed) and various motion pieces.

When creating her logo I knew that I wanted to incorporate the owl, as it is her symbol and also the fact that she is the city protectress. That is how I landed at this column featuring the carving of an owl. For the moodboard, I photographed all of these images with the idea of “what would Athena’s Pinterest board look like.” I incorporated books, architectural elements and even some photos that I took during my trip to Greece. In regard to her profile picture, I  wanted her to appear regal and strong.

Here is a look at the full feed and two posts. As you can see, she has a large following, is verified and has  highlights featuring her favorite books and words of wisdom.

Our next god is Hades, the Lord of the Underworld. For Hades’ logo, I wanted to feature Cerberus, the three headed dog that guards the Underworld. I thought it would be less literal and more exciting than just having a skull or something of that nature. I imagined that he would wear black eyeliner, have spikes on his jacket and wear a dark crown. I see him as being pretty edgy, sarcastic and a bit of a jerk at times.

Here is what the feed looks like as a whole along with two posts. Hades is quite popular, though he is not the most active God on social media. If you look closely at the captions, you can see his cheeky captions and a comment from his brother, Zeus.

The final God is Apollo, the god of the sun, archery, poetry, music and medicine. Because his page is a TikTok, his posts are all motion graphics. His logo features the head of an arrow combined with the strings and base of a lyre because as the mythology states, that was the first instrument created by Apollo himself. When illustrating Apollo, I wanted him to look soft, warm and kind to reflect the sun shining. I illustrated each frame of these animations and everything, including photography, is original content.

Here is a view of Apollo’s feed on TikTok. I imagine that he would use a lot of emojis, which I implemented into his bio. Then there are two mockups of what his posts would look like for users.
